Manga Review : Medaka Box

Summary: Kurokami Medaka, a first year, is elected as Student Council President, and the first thing she does is establish a suggestion box. Since she was just elected as Student Council President, she's holding all the Student Council's responsibilities, and wearing their armbands.
So, she asks for her childhood friend, Hitoyoshi Zenkichi, for help.


REVIEW: So we have yet another manga to review...and who could have guessed...it's another CRAAAAZYYY manga to read but we all know it and we all love it so lets get down to it!

First things first,it's a high-school manga that resolves around fighting (like so many battle-manga out there) our main character Kurokami Medaka is a 1st year that managed to get student council president with the astonishing approval rating of 98% and so she asks her chilhood friend Zenkichi (who i personaly believe is easily the best supporting character for any main character out there /go ZEN!!!) for help...

And this is where we say..."Shit just got real!" i mean the girl -medaka- is freaking insane! She establishes a suggestion box that the students can go and drop a request for just about ANYTHING! From cleaning up a gym to actually shuting down a mutli-million project!But of course medaka wouldn't be so insane if she wasn't THE ULTIMATE TROLL!! I mean seriously she is!

But before we get to why she is a troll lets clear somethings first...according to the manga there are 3 types of people normals -your average Joe-,specials -the super athletic guys,super smart etc etc- and the abnormals...which all have some kind of unique and special ability like...reading thoughts...or transmiting electrical currents directly in the kinetic nerves of the body so that they can make you do whatever the user wants...or how about poping hidden weapons from your clothes? (one guy actually brought out a bazooka...a FREAKING BAZOOKA?! where the heck did he hide that under his clothes?!)

So as you may have guessed by now medaka is an abnormal...but her ability is to actually LEARN other peoples ability/skills/abnormalities and actually using them BETTER than the original users! So yeah she is a god damn troll to everyone...

But the worst trolling she does is that she says:"I love my enemies just like my friends"...ARE u kidding me?! You just beat the living shit out of the guy and u say you did it for hiw own good?! TRolololol:P

But the 2 things that really stand out in this manga -and make it really a good read - are : 1st That it's the king of all the battle-type cliches! like: main character never looses,every enemy is turned into an ally,none betrays the main characters and if it seems like that it's just a plan to help them actually and so on and so on.

And second...it actually makes fun of Jump comics! -Weekly Shounen Jump (WSJ in short) is the magazine that this manga is being published:P:P- I mean seriously a manga that actually makes fun of mangas! How cool is that???


Bottom line a must read for anyone cause it's freaking hillarious,and the art-work is quiet clean and well drawn.

Movie Review: Balada Triste De Trompeta

1937, Spain is in the midst of the brutal Spanish Civil War. A "Happy" circus clown is interrupted mid-performance and forcibly recruited by a militia. Still in his costume, he is handed a machete and led into battle against National soldiers, where he single handedly massacres an entire platoon. Fast forward to 1973, the tail end of the Franco regime. Javier, the son of the clown, dreams of following in his father's career footsteps, but has seen too much tragedy in his life-he's simply not funny and is only equipped to play the role of the Sad Clown. He finds work in a circus where he befriends an outlandish cast of characters, but as the Sad Clown he must take the abuse of the brutish Happy Clown Sergio, who humiliates Javier daily in the name of entertainment. It is here that he meets Natalia, a gorgeous acrobat, and abused wife of Sergio. Javier falls deeply in love with Natalia and tries to rescue her from her cruel and violent husband, unleashing Sergio's jealousy. But Natalia is torn between her affection towards Javier and her lust for Sergio.



Review:

The original title of this movie is Balada Triste De Trompeta which is spanish for balad of a sad trompet. The english title is "The Last Circus" that in my opinion has nothing at all to do with this movie, they may as well call it "A circus in a lion's den"... The Greek title was even further from the point of movie, it translates to "The last acrobat of Madrid". So that is why I choose to use the original spanish title.

It took a veeeeeeeery long time till I finaly decided to watch this movie. I knew it was an old social movie and that kind ussually bores me...

Last week I finally watched it and I have to say that I was surprised. This movie has a very strange, even twisted some times, sense of humor, at many scenes I wasn't sure if the humor was intented or I just found it funny. Most of the times the humor was a very short part of a very serious scene, existing just to break the heavy environment. I liked that aspect of the movie very much.

The second thing that I liked about this movie is the very dark and psycho environment it creates. The main hero is surrounded by death his whole life and watching this movie puts you right in the place to understand just a tiny part of how he feels. Also I like crazy, murderous clowns XD

The thing that bothers most people, not me though, is that the movie is too depressing with the exception of a few scenes it drowns the viewer in saddness and pain, so if you want a comedy don't watch this.

REVIEW:
Two Moons of Sera is like mangas where you don't get the full story in once but in volumes. I have to say it was something new for me but it was exciting. It's like having a magazine each month which instead of gossip is a story.


Tyler writes about a world where people are born into water, earth ,fire and they are all entirely different creatures than mere humans. While it took me 2-3 chapters to get used to them, especially how the water people looked it had something that totally kept me in. The whole mystery, stay away from the others, etc was fascinating and flow in a way that made you want to know more and more. The story also progressing quite fast, without missing something though. And in the end, it just makes you stay there, up and reading.


But what really makes you interested in the story, is how 2 characters so different than each other, yet both grew up away from others, need company and trying to help each other in their own way. The whole process of finding out new things, even learning to talk, and other stuff is nicely written.


I can say Two Moons of Sera is a nice and enjoyable way for small break between other books. It's small and entertaining while at the same time it's quite original too and for me is worthy its time.
