Book Review: Bloodlines

The first book in Richelle Mead's brand-new teen fiction series - set in the same world as Vampire Academy.

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.

REVIEW:
Finally i get to review Bloodlines! It's some time now i've read it ^^ Now, i need to mention how much i wanted the edition with the UK cover but i couldn't find anywhere so i bought the one above....sniff...

Anyway, another VA book eh? I know i was excited like crazy! I love Richelle's Mead writing style and how easy you connect with the characters. How her books are dark and funny, with lots of action but some romance too. Excitement and twists! A nice mix of everything, and Bloodlines it's exactly like that (just a bit funnier)!

I've read many reviews before i got to read the book, and many people said it could be better and Sydney is nothing next to Rose and she is boring and blah blah....really guys? Sydney is an entirely different character, what did you expect? Yes, she is not the kick ass heroine Rose was and she is a little coward at some points but to tell the truth i prefer her. Why? Because it's closer to reality. I could see myself in her and connect with her a lot better. She is down to earth and i believe she sees her mistakes and she is even more clever than Rose. She has her own nice parts.
Plus, in the book we have Adrian and Eddie. I know most people are Team Dimitri but i'm not, so the book was like a paradise for me. Adrian scenes were priceless! The guy is amazing and he finally gets some real page time!! Also, Jill is nice addition and she is such a cute character to meet.I prefer her to Lissa as well.

The book has its action in a different level. I liked how we get to see for once the human world. For 6 books we lived with vampires so it was a nice change. And "vampire slayers"? I'm getting excited here! It was pretty much a normal book in excitement and curiosity but there were times i was like "niceee...i see what you did there^^".....and of course at the last sentence...oh...i started laughing evilly and i was "YES! MOUAHAHAHA!"...

So yes, Bloodlines...i loved it! It's not Vampire Academy but at the same time it is. Easier, different and lighter than VA but magnifique!
When i finished i just wanted to re-read it immediately which is something that has month to happen. Too bad i have a huge TBR and i had to say no to myself.

Book Review: Spectyr

Though one of the most powerful Deacons, Sorcha Faris has a tarnished reputation to overcome, which is why she jumps at the chance to investigate a string of murders in the exotic city of Orithal. But it is there that her lover, the shapeshifting rival to the throne, is targeted by a cruel and vengeful goddess, unwittingly unleashed by the Emperor's sister.

REVIEW:
For some reason i was pretty sure i had reviewed Spectyr and i still am but i can't find it anywhere so here i am (again or not again)...

I'm gonna skip how awesome the cover is, since you see by yourself its awesomeness!

I picked Spectyr immediatelly after Geist since as i have already told you it was one of the best fantasy books i've read. In Spectyr, the author gets the chance to open her world more to us. Geist was an introduction but Spectyr is the real deal. You get to learn more about the world, their gods, their history, explore new places and some back story of the characters as well.
So even though at points, i was a little tired of all the new info, still the adventure, action and twists kept me reading and i finished it even faster than Geist.

You might see Sorcha once again at the cover but Merrick is a far important character than her. Merrick is also my favorite character so i was really happy when i learned more about him, see him saving people's asses, have dealings with powerful creatures and becomes stronger as well. Sorcha still had the most action scenes but i believe Merrick steal the light in this one. But no matter who was more important story, it was nice to see that all characters changed through the story and what happened in the previous book too.

Favorite part of the book was when you get to know a lot more about the Deacons' connection and how important it is to them. You get to see how vulnerable are alone but how the characters act in difficult situations like that and understand them better.

A great installment of a series that i recommend to any fantasy lover. Be fast and read the books since next one will be out later in 2012! I know i can't for it!

Thanks Philippa Ballantine for providing a copy of the book.

Poster Nominees - Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader

WINNER -"THE ASLAN!!!":
Yiota: Hmmmm...i can't really decide. I love the "All in One" because it's a better sum up of the movie and it's cool but if i had to buy one for my room, i would have pick one of the other three. They look more artistic and magical. So one vote for every poster for me.
Silvestro: Narnia's coolest character was, is and will always be Ashlan and the most badass poster showing him is "The Ashlan!!!!" poster so I chose this, and to top that in his eyes you can see the reflection of one of the main characters that is a bit old trick but still cool :D

Cover Nominees - Memoirs of a Geisha

  WINNER - "THE MOVIE ONE":
Yiota: Easily "The Movie One". It's just beautiful! Her eyes are captivating!
Silvestro: Geisha is all about the beauty and the pain and the one that shows them both is the "the movie one" poster

Which ones you will pick?

Johnny English Reborn : Movie Review

The known MI7 agent, Johnny English, under the service of her majesty runs to the rescue of a Chinese official from a mercenary assassin organization. It is the sequel to the hilarious Johnny English movie that made all of us burst into laughter.

Review:

Wait a minute, ow aouts, trying to pull myself together, ow my belly muscles still hurt from the laughter, I think I pulled a muscle there, is that even possible ? XD

I watched the first Johnny English movie quite recently and I laughed pretty good with it so I expected the second to be at least as funny, and it was much funnier :D

It starts at a Buddhist monastery where Johnny has retired to find inner peace and a new purpose for his life, with some pretty funny training of course, until MI7 calls him back to serve his country.
He goes back and he is assigned to investigate a mercenary assassination squad that are paid to kill a high ranking Chinese official.
The whole movie is this investigation with some pretty funny detective F moments, F stand for Fail by the way XD, and some LMFAO fighting and chase scenes :D

The effects are… not there actually, it had a couple of explosions but nothing too exciting. The gadgets on the other hand were as cool as in any other spy movie, and with this user they became cool and fun.

Now the bad thing about this movie is that in most crucial scenes you could tell what was going to happen way before it happened, and I heard that from other people from the audience too.
At some point the person sitting in front of me turned to his friend and said “have you watched this before ? how do you know what is going to happen all the time ?” and he responded “well it is pretty easy to guess…”.
On the other hand even if you knew what was going to happen it was still too funny watching it that I couldn’t stop laughing XD
Actually I think that I laughed in every scene, maybe with the exception of 2-3 “serious” scenes, but still it is a great amount of laughter.

So if you like unique movies and surprises this is not for you, if you want a funny movie with clichés and easily predicted scenes but still too funny to resist laughing this is the movie for you.

P.S. also the first scene on the trailer with the bearded Johnny saying "How ?" is not in the movie :( I was searching for it :'(
