Riley Blackthorne just needs a chance to prove herself – and that’s exactly what the demons are counting on…
Seventeen-year-old Riley, the only daughter of legendary Demon Trapper, Paul Blackthorne, has always dreamed of following in her father's footsteps. The good news is, with human society seriously disrupted by economic upheaval and Lucifer increasing the number of demons in all major cities, Atlanta’s local Trappers’ Guild needs all the help they can get – even from a girl. When she’s not keeping up with her homework or trying to manage her growing crush on fellow apprentice, Simon, Riley’s out saving distressed citizens from foul-mouthed little devils – Grade One Hellspawn only, of course, per the strict rules of the Guild. Life’s about as normal as can be for the average demon-trapping teen.
But then a Grade Five Geo-Fiend crashes Riley’s routine assignment at a library, jeopardizing her life and her chosen livelihood. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, sudden tragedy strikes the Trappers’ Guild, spinning Riley down a more dangerous path than she ever could have imagined. As her whole world crashes down around her, who can Riley trust with her heart – and her life?

REVIEW:
Imagine Demon's Trapper Daughter like something the Supernatural TV Series. There are demons around the world and there are hunters. Riley is the daughter of a hunter and we follow her story after her father's death.
The idea is not something really new if you think about it but the way the world, our world, is towards is a bit different. We have the church actually being responsible for the hunting, something like Van Helsing movie. I found the writing simple and really easy to read the book. I finished it in one read mostly because the mystery and story was flowing nicely.
I wasn't really fun of the characters neither i did hate them. I could understand at a point and later i had problem with connecting. Either way, i found Riley a strong and clever girl (doing stupid moves sometimes it's acceptable) where she was trying to keep up with her world. Her dad's death, the ways to find money, school, apprentices, etc. I didn't really liked Simon (her romance boy). He was sooooo good. Seriously good and i felt weird with him. He felt fake. And i definetelly couldn't understand what she was seeing in him.
The book follows 2 POVs. And are 2 of my fav i've ever read. It's Riley and her dad's apprentice, Beck. Beck is strange guy. Who never really had much of a family and now he feels responsible for Riley. So for the 1st time, i didn't follow the guy of the love story but someone else also important at the story in a different way. And it was a nice change.
What i didn't like at all was the end. At the very last minute the book turned out to be based on angels vs demons, a heroine responsible to save the world and i was nahhh....I don't say i won't read the next installment of the series but i lost interest at the point.

I like that it's like Supernatural, but the characters/romance still have me on the fence. Thank you for your review. :)
ReplyDeleteYour mention of Supernatural makes me want to read the book - I haven't read many books with demons and demon hunters. I am sorry about the disappointing ending.
ReplyDeletethat sounds like a fun book, i haven't watched Supernatural thought, i hope it is not scary XD
ReplyDelete@athanasia: no it's not scary! :)
ReplyDelete@athanasia:if you want scary watch the anime version of supernatural, that's scary... :D
ReplyDelete@silvestro: really? i don't see how an anime can be scary. it screams fake :P
ReplyDelete@Silvestro: really? i agree with yiota, how it can be scary? and i asked because i don't want scary XD
ReplyDelete@Yiota,athanasia-d: In a scary movie, I don't know about you, but I am not scared because the setting or the actors feels real, I'm scared because of the sounds, the story and some creepy scenes and those things can be inside an anime. Now the supernatural anime is much scarier than the series but it is more of a splater than a horror anime, only a few scenes are really scary.
