Movie Review: Battleship

Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.

Instead of doing a review from the list i have, i will surprise you with a movie i watched yesterday at the cinemas. Let's stay clear i had no expectations from the movie. The trailer didn't make sense. It's called "Battleship" and i only could think of, how the hell they are going to bring the Battleship game into a movie.Plus, Rihanna was in the movie?? We went with the gang just for fun and for the special effects.

I see it as a good thing i had no exceptions because i actually liked it and enjoyed it. I'm even happy i watched it at the cinemas. For starters, the special effects were so freaking awesome. What can those people do? With every new movie i 'm even more surprised with the details and the things they make. It was simply wow and for that only deserves a cinema or a Blu Ray watch. (Really good music too!)

And to come on the movie itself? The first 20 mins were little random as an introduction but then! Heck! It was full action packed! Instead of giving us a Transformers, with unnecessary romance scenes between the battle, and stupid jokes they went full action. No romance between scenes. No unnecessary scenes. Just boom boom boom! It was around the battle and only. Who said you have to force things in for a bigger audience. Do the movie right and will be good. And a story line, which yes had some holes from time to time, but it made sense and it actually made us discussing the movie and what will happen.

As for the casting. Another surprise there. Michael Bay, should watch the movie and learn. Rihanna was inn but they didn't give her scenes to make her the star of the movie. She was even full dressed all the time, her scenes were actually useful instead of cliche lines like Fox or Huntighton and other random "hot" girls that appear in movies. Yes, she is not a good actress..she is below average but she didn't really act. She was mostly there shooting stuff and at least you weren't getting annoyed by her presence.
The rest cast was surprisingly good too. They fit nice in their roles. They convinced me on what they were doing. Neeson didn't have many scenes, but he definitely stays in your mind.

In the end Battleship, is one of the movie that is full of action with some funny moments now and there without tiring you. It excites you. The trailer made more sense that you think. Alien Invasion. Ships. Battle. Explosions. And you get all that in their fullest.

  3. Yes!! I haven't seen this yet, but I want to. I am SO happy to hear it doesn't get bogged down with a forced romance. I want action, action, action, and it sounds like that's exactly what I'm going to get. Yay!
