Firelight Review

A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

REVIEW:
I really hate when i'm so hyped about a book and when i get i don't enjoy as expected. I have read books that i disliked much more, but still for misses a lot of things.

The summary from Goodreads pretty much says everything need to know about the plot. I would love to add some more things but there will be spoilers sooo...

The were two main things that annoyed me. Firstly, (and more important of the two) is that the story is not developed enough. The whole thing with the draki, is such an original and clever idea. I really fall for it. But in the book, you really don't get much of it. Most of it is around the love story between Jacinda and Will. You don't get to know much things about the draki, except everything is about Jacinda, and you see their community only in the first 2-3 chapters. Then they disappear til the end of the book. And even if i thought that i might learn more, while Jacinda where thinking about them, no nothing. She tell us 1-2 memories but not really about their world. I love dragons. No, that's wrong. I'm total maniac for dragons and i wanted them in.
Second bad part was the love story. While it was interesting, at the same time it reminded me Twilight. And i don't like Twilight. There were scenes that i felt like i was reading Twilight. For example when we first see Will and Jacinda learns that he is the guy that all the girls want but he don't date. Even the quote was almost the same. Or like he was stalking at her house, really late at night, for no real reason. Because he wanted to see her. And seriously when he finally got with her, he had to use the window?!And there are many more examples and the quotes accompanied with them and filled like was re-phrases of Twilight. It just felt a copy better than the original. Who knows..maybe it's my idea.

The rest was pretty good actually. I liked Jordan's writing. It easily takes you in the book. The characters were in a normal level, acceptable. There are many mysteries still not answered and an amazing ending, which really made me wanna get the next book. I believe we will see more draki! I really hope so!

  1. It happened to me once or twice, to except something else from a book, but this one?? Really?? The summary is great, and you know I'm not an expert, but the cover is really good....
Also, now you see the affection of the Twilight....

  2. Aw, yes, I had such high hopes for this book and I was so let down! I didn't hate it, but I had been lusting after that cover for months and months before it was even released and then...eh.

I agree with you on wanting more about the draki. They have this whole society that's been secret but parallel to ours. I really wanted to see how that worked, how they managed to stay hidden, and how the dragon hunters worked with the whole thing (like people knew but didn't know about dragons?) It was just...not fleshed out enough.

What dragon books do you recommend? I loved Vivian Vande Velde's Dragon's Bait. I really like dragon books, but of course I can't think of any now!

  3. Oh, and yes, I got very strong Twilight vibes. VERY strong. I didn't love Twilight, so I really didn't love seeing it here again.

I prefer her other love interest, the draki. I hope we see more of him in the sequel.
