Movies Vs Books: "White Fang"

Story Summary: White Fang is a novel by American author Jack London. First serialized in Outing magazine, it was published in 1906. The story takes place in Yukon Territory, Canada, during the Klondike Gold Rush at the end of the 19th-century, and details a wild wolfdog's journey to domestication. White Fang is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which concerns a kidnapped, domesticated dog turning into a wild animal.
Much of the novel is written from the view-point of his canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans.White Fang examines the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. The book also explores complex themes including morality andredemption.
White Fang has been adapted for the screen numerous times, including a live-action Disney film in 1991 starring Ethan Hawke.
Where The Book Wins: Well the book gets deeper in White Fang himself. It shows the story through the perspective of the wolf and how he reacts on the world. And as all books you manage to have a more immediate knowledge of the story as well as it has more scenes and all. You get a really nice view of the time area of the novel as well as a nice view of the life of a pack.

Where The Movie Wins: The movie shows you more of the human that takes takes sympathy of the wolf and tries his best to take him out of the syndicate of dog fights. It has more scenes regarding the master and shows his point of view. And well as all movies you can actually see the scenes unfold.

Final Winner: I personally find it a tie. The movie shows the story through the perspective of the man, while the book of the wolf. They both have their pros and cons and they are both classics. I reccomend both of them, but especially the book which is my secret favorite book (not so secret now i guess:P )

  3. @Athanasia: you obssesed with wolves too? :P I was so sad when i finished the book! Because on one hand there was no more story left and on the other hand because I knew I could never get a wolf like White Fang. The movie is not bad as a matter of fact. I say watch it. But dont expect to compare it to the book. The book is the wolf, the movie is the man.
