Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Rob Marshall, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”
captures the fun, adventure and humor that ignited the hit
franchise—this time in Disney Digital 3D™. Johnny Depp returns to his
iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow in an action-packed adventure.
Crossing paths with the enigmatic Angelica (Penelope Cruz), he’s not
sure if it’s love—or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to
find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the “Queen
Anne’s Revenge,” the ship of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Ian
McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he
doesn’t know whom to fear more: Blackbeard or Angelica, with whom he
shares a mysterious past. The international cast includes franchise vets
Geoffrey Rush as the vengeful Captain Hector Barbossa and Kevin R.
McNally as Captain Jack’s longtime comrade Joshamee Gibbs, plus Sam
Claflin as a stalwart missionary and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as a
mysterious mermaid.
REVIEW:
Can't explain how excited me and the gang were about the movie :p We should have known better...tsk tsk..
Let's start with the 3D part. Not deserve its money. Except 2-3 scenes, there was nothing really remarkable about the 3D. Once again, the trailers before the movie (especially Transformers 3) were by far better. So we did spend 5 euros to nothing.
Now, let's talk about the other 7 euros of the ticket which was the movie in general. Forget the old POTC movies. This one is entirely different. While the other were more action-battle related, this one was more of a big adventure with small quests in. I would love it to have some more ship related scenes, especially with Blackbeard's ship. It was still nice though. The story was more careful created and it went a little back to the first POTC.
Special effects, music...can't say much about them. They were almost perfection for me.
And as for the actors...Johnny Depp was good. Jack Sparrow is he role and it had a little more depth as a character in this one. Of course, he was doing anything stupid, weird and out of the mind thing was possible. The movie had more "wtf" moments than all the previous ones together.
Captain Barbossa! Love love love love! He is the only decent pirate in the film. Even if he works for the navy at most of the movie, he still rocks as a pirate! And for first time we saw his character and his thoughts more too!
I think the rest were new pirates. There was a sailor guy, extremely stupid which i believe took the part of the two weirdos from Barbossa's crew from the previous movies.
There was Blackbeard, which for some reason i didn't find him interesting at all. That has nothing to do with the acting though. I just didn't like him and his scenes. He was lame XD His ship was cooler than him.
Angelica didn't impress me either. I think, Penelope Cruz was the most non-convincing pirate of the company.
The priest guy was the hottie. Not much to say about him. He has the part of the love story of the movie.
The mermaids rocked! Totally loved them! One of the best part of the movie! They were beautiful and deadly ^^
Don't know if i forget someone. While i really enjoyed it, i kinda missed Bloom and Knightley. Their absence was noticeable. I recommend the movie, just keep in mind it's different than the old ones.
Oh! And for those who doesn't know. POTC have the tradition to put a small scene after the credits every time. Here is the new one, for those who didn't know or missed it.

I just saw it in 3D on Tuesday and I LOVED it :) I agree with you, the 3D effects were nothing special, but the movie as a whole was awesome :) Jack was hilarious, Barbarosa was just freakishly funny and although I kind of missed Kira and Orlando, Penelope was a great new addition to the crew! Oh, and of of course the mermaid action was pretty cool... *_*
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you enjoyed it, too!
I heard rumors that they have scenarios for 5 and 6 part, but Johnny hasn't signed them yet.. so who knows!
LOL where there people singing to the credits?? That's so great. XD I love the Pirates music!
ReplyDeleteI found the movie a bit disapointing really... It was a nice movie but in comparisson with the previous POTC movies this one was the worst, maybe because Knightley wasn't in it.
ReplyDeleteAlso how the f**k is logical for a priest to have this body ? What, they forgot to strap his legs on the sail and he was working out the whole trip ?
And finally why didn't we see Sparrow get a painful experience from his voodoo doll's trip to the island ?

ReplyDelete@silvestro: i totally agree with you, it was really disappointing, i was really bored in many parts, it had nothing to do with the previous POTC.
ReplyDeletei didn't miss Kira because i don't like her but i really missed Orlando, he is a great actor and i loved his character.
Penelope was really bad, she didn't fit as a pirate and the romance with Jack was fake, they didn't have any chemistry, and her acting was bad too..
Jack and Barbarosa weren't anything special too, i didn't find jack hilarious...
the 3D effects were nothing special but it was the first movie i saw in 3D so i enjoyed it!
my favorite part of the movie were the mermaids, they were awesome! but i didn't like the romance between the mermaid and the priest.. maybe they tried to have him as the hottie of the movie but he was boring..
@athanasia & silvestro: you both forget the movie had a new director. and he gave a different touch to it.
ReplyDelete@silvestro: don't blame the guy for having an awesome body. he probably had it before they caught him XD And i still don't get how the voodoo doll worked XD
@athanasia: you have a weird sense of humor and we all know it XD hahaha!
@Evie: i think Depp has signed for the 5th one but it will come in 2-3 years.
Ah, saw this one too a week ago or so :) Really liked it, Jack Sparrow was awesome as usual and the mermaids were amazingly well done :D
ReplyDeleteBetween Blackbeard and Angelica, who would you fear more if you're the C.J.Sparrow and why?
ReplyDelete@Tasha: i would say Angelica. As Sparrow has a big affection for women i think she would more easily manipulate me. Blackbeard without his ship is nothing.
