The Survivors, Book Review

In 1692, when witch trials gripped the community of Salem, Massachusetts, twenty-six children were accused as witches, exiled, and left for dead. Fourteen of them survived. The Survivors is the first installment of the tantalizing tales of the fourteen ill-fated Survivors and their descendants, who have been content in hiding for over three centuries. Isolated on a Montana mountainside, only Sadie, the rogue daughter, dares to abandon the family's sacred hiding place. But no matter how far Sadie runs, something always pulls her back.
On a muggy summer night in Tennessee, she witnesses a shocking scene that will change her life forever. It is the first in a sequence of events that will drag her from the human world she's sought to belong to for over a century and send her back to her Puritanical family and into an uncertain future filled with cunning witches, mysterious nosferatu shape-shifters, dangerous eretica and vieczy vampires, millennia-old mythology, and the search for her own mortality. After all...

REVIEW:
One word: A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

I can't describe how much i loved the book. It was so calm and easy to read it. Going smoothly all the time and with little twists now and then. The book belongs to the "young adult" category but still it's something more adult-y in a way. The writing has a more serious tone than at most young adult books with being light in a different way. And the characters are around 20-25 and they are not so light headed but still you can see a teen in them.
The author gets her time explaining the story, the ideals, getting to know the characters than to go immediately in the main "problem". The book is one of the best story introductions i've read. I wasn't bored at all even though the action is limited, because the mystery around the creatures were so nicely created that made you want to read more and more. For once, i really get to know the characters of the book well.

As for the story, while it plays around the creatures we see all the time it's so different than that. Remind me a bit of The Village movie but a lot better. There are twists and surprises all the time. And it was nice to see that author had actually researched what she was writing. Myths and stories that i knew weren't altered.
And the fact that there are also things like Vogue, iPhone, Harry Potter and mane little things that we see or use in our life every day makes you come closer with the story. Most books avoid anything like that but i like to read that someone in our world listen to a Katy Perry song that i know too.

And the romance. True love stuff. BUT the couple doesn't agree to anything. Something that we see around. To be in love doesn't mean that you to agree or have the same ideas with your partner. That would be boring, right? It was a nice touch that they had their differences at times.

Survivors is easily one of the best books i've read in 2011! There are twists, magic, romance and a lot of action to come! I was really sad to see when the book ended. I wish the 2nd one was out already! Totally worth your time!

P.S: Don't you love the cover? It's so simple, yet so magical! :)

Thanks Amanda Havard and the publishers for providing a copy of the book.

  1. Best book of 2011?? That will worth my time....
I'm not sure about the known to us things though (Vogue, Katy Perry, etc), I'd prefer not to be mentioned in books....
Anyway, I agree about the cover, it's really attractive....

  6. Vampires is not at all like in the movies or books. Sure, I understand. You are young you have the whole world open to you. You can be anything that you choose if you apply yourself and try hard to work toward that goal. But being a Vampire is not what it seems like. It’s a life full of good, and amazing things. We are as human as you are.. It’s not what you are that counts, But how you choose to be. Do you want a life full of interesting things? Do you want to have power and influence over others? To be charming and desirable? To have wealth, health, and longevity? contact the Vampires Lord on his Email: Richvampirekindom@gmail.com
