Book Review: The Emerald Atlas

Kate, Michael, and Emma have been in one orphanage after another for the last ten years, passed along like lost baggage.
Yet these unwanted children are more remarkable than they could possibly imagine. Ripped from their parents as babies, they are being protected from a horrible evil of devastating power, an evil they know nothing about.
Until now.
Before long, Kate, Michael, and Emma are on a journey to dangerous and secret corners of the world...a journey of allies and enemies, of magic and mayhem. And—if an ancient prophesy is correct—what they do can change history, and it is up to them to set things right.

The Emerald Atlas ( The Books of Beginning #1 ) by John Stephens

REVIEW:
Many say Emerald Atlas is the new Harry Potter...well no but it's indeed a clever and enjoyable book. I would characterized more as "Chronicles of Narnia-Series of Unfortunate Events-Inkheart" book. Yeah all of them together :p

The thing that i loved most, was John Stephens writing. It's simple yet appealing. Of course it's a middle grade book but still it feels magical to read it and so easy and light. I liked how well placed felt every scene, funny,sad,action-ish or whatever. It flows like a river.
Then of course we have a story which as said it something like mixing many well known fantasy book into one and even then still making something original and unique. I actually found pretty clever the idea of the Emerald Atlas in general and i'm wondering now what powers the other books have. There is also magic, adventure, action and an amazing new world to explore (from places to creatures).
The book is also for the dwarfs lovers. It's probably the first book i read there are no elves and dwarves are the important race of the story. It was quite interesting to see their world and see what they can also do.

As for the kids, i totally loved them! You see chapters of everyone's POV and it's nice to see how differently each kid think of some matters. They also have their good and bad moments. And most important, John Stephens didn't forget what kids are alike and i believe that's what made the book so good! They would ask questions non-stop, they will want treats, they will do stupid stuff cause of their feelings, they will get scared, they will be cowards, they will do pranks, they will cry or laugh, they will not act all awesome and mighty in extremely dangerous situations! Everything kids under 14 do...or at least they used to do since now they are lame and facebooking all the time.

Emerald Atlas was one of the most funny, adventurous and enjoyable book i've read this year. And even i'm an adult now, i fell for it from the very first page!

  4. This book has so many twists and turns. It has been keeping me spellbound with all its magic. I am only half way through and felt compelled to write a review...
I buy books for my friend and usually read them first to assess their contents.
