Professor
Tikaya Komitopis isn't a great beauty, a fearless warrior, or even
someone who can walk and chew chicle at the same time, but her
cryptography skills earn her wartime notoriety. When enemy marines show
up at her family's plantation, she expects the worst. But they're not
there to kill her. They need her to decode mysterious runes, and they
ask for help in the manner typical of a conquering empire: they kidnap
her, threaten her family, and throw her in the brig of their fastest
steamship.

REVIEW:
Now that was a really good fantasy-mystery story. I have to admit that i had my doubts, but once more i was proved wrong.
When i was done i the prologue my reaction was "ohhh..noo...i will not like that and it is big too..damn".
Then i'm done with the first chapter and i'm "ok..that's gettting interesting"
After second chapter? "hohoho that's goooood! that's really good!o.o"
Yep! Exactly like that! After chapter 6-7 i finished the book in one read!
What i liked about it was its originality, the fantasy-archaeology parts and the environment with its back-up story. To get on this one by one.
It was something totally different. Combination of fantasy, wars, some magic and some technology in a really good and believable way (believe i hate that kind of my combination and i liked this one). I liked how well the characters were made, with full backgrounds and secrets that you can't really get til the writer wants you to tell (i had to delete half of the goodreads summary cause it was full of spoilers :O). They were normal, in the way not too much whining, bravery or super powers. Simple-normal.
And same for the story, it has its mysteries til the very end.
The descriptions were really good, creating a good view of the environment. Though, i will admit sometimes i was losing it cause of the details and i had to re-read some parts.
If i had an objection will be at how fast after her fiance's death Tikaya fells for another man. Then you will tell me, she wasn't so much in love with him but still it was fast for me.
You totally need to give a chance to this book!
