Beastly, Movie Review

A modern-day take on the "Beauty and the Beast" tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love.

REVIEW:
I don't really know how long I was expecting to see this movie. I became kind of obsessed with this matter, but all my expectations and waiting were worth it.

First of all, the plot was really good. You take a classic fairy tale and you bring it to life in our time and place, and especially in New York City. In a school where appearance matters a lot and kids with money are more appealing than common ones.

Secondly, the directing and the script were really good. You get to know, not only the famous places of the city, but also the neighborhoods that none is talking about. As for the script, I liked that there were easy lines, more appropriate in teenagers, and more serious ones at the same time in order for the characters to express their feelings.

Finally, the acting and the characters were also really good:
Alex Pettyfer did a great job, first by being an ass and then by regreting and correcting his mistakes.
Vanessa Hudgens was good too, even though her acting was a little flat, but she had her moments.
Neil Patrick Harris was so funny. I was expecting him to be serious, but I was surprised seeing him being the comedy note in the movie, the one who helped Kyle to deal with his problems.
Mary-Kate Olsen was the evil witch who transformed Kyle into a beast. I liked her style and the reason she was doing everything and I don't judge her, since she had a purpose on what she was doing.
Lisa-Gay Hamilton was the woman who was taking care of Kyle and she was so sweet for helping him, although he was mean to her in the beginning.
And Peter Krause was Kyle's dad. You are going to hate him, because he's selfish and he cares more for himself than his son.

Bottom line, I liked the entire movie. All the romantic moments and the funny ones, even the ones which had a little action in. I felt like I was living the movie and I was feeling anxious to see how it ends. Well, I think that's mostly a girls' movie, because of its romance and sweetness. I totally recommend it to you.

  9. "Beastly" is less of a book and more of a choppy, unoriginal outtake on "Beauty and the Beast". The classic fairytale suffers to be connected with this accumulation of stale characters drawn in black ink. It's more like Flinn tried so desperately hard to keep true to the original story that he created a heap of unneeded aspects that drowned his own creation. If you want to see a true adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast", try "East" by Edith Pattou.

And they're coming out with a movie...at least Hollywood can't do any worse.
