Hanna, Movie Review

A 16-year-old who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless inteligence agent and her operatives.

REVIEW:

The reason I watched this movie was because I found the trailer interesting. I mean, a teen kicking asses is definitely my kind. Kicking asses, in general, is definetely my kind.

From the trailer you don't get to know lots of things about the characters. The only thing you know is that both father and daughter are hunted by CIA. You guess different things about the choice of the father to raise his child into the wild, but you don't expect the real reason and the real story.

Firstly, we have the characters. The daughter was playing really cold, which I think was the purpose of it, since she was raised to be a heartless killer. I felt that by the way she was raised she had missed her childhood and her normal teenage years and you could see that. The father was ok, for a former agent, but he had this distance from his daughter, like he never really shown his affection for her. As for the CIA agent who hunts them down, she's proffesional and a killer and she doesn't really show any kind of feeling or the reason why she hunts them down.
Secondly, you hear this weird accent that you can't define where it comes from.
And lastly, when I saw the trailer, I thought that the movie would take place into USA, maybe Canada and Alaska, but no. It had to be placed to a numerous of different countries and cities that you do not take a good look at.

The ends surprises. I wasn't expecting it at all. You only learn everything at the end and you are clueless during the movie which is a positive thing. The acting surprises too. As I mentioned above, the characters were kind of cold and motionless, but I don't think this was a bad acting. On the contrary, it must have been really hard for the actors to play cool with all this chaos around.

Bottom line, even though it was slightly weird and different, I found it interesting and I recommend it to you only if you would like to try another type of action movie than those you've seen in the past.

  3. I was expecting a lot from this movie since I loved Joe Wright's previous movies - Atonement and Pride and Prejudice. Though I liked Hanna, it was still slightly disappointing. But you are right, it's quite different.

  8. we should make a poll...

  9. I have thought about watching this because I really like Saoirse Ronan, she was great in the City of Ember and The Lovely bones. Now all I need to do is convince my boyfriend that he wants to see it! Thanks for the review.

  10. @TheGirlOnFire tell him that there are bows, he will DEFINITIVELY want to see it!!!!!

@Silvesto: yes because housewives will think we are talking about cooking and will vote for knives and forks over bows.

  11. @JohnnyB: Yep that's a reason too, you can find a knife everywhere around you so you are always with a weapon at hand, why not make it a favorite weapon, instead you can't find a bow just standing in the corner and ready to use ;)

  12. That is what makes bows so awesome. They are not a common thing. Not every loser can wield a bow. You need to be a badass, EXTREMELY handsome and stylish person with EXCELLENT taste to be able to shoot well with a bow. And before Yiota you disagree think if you would like to stand on a wall with me shooting at you. NO really think abou think think about it (Flight of the Concords reference)

(a little self promotion never hurt anyone)

  13. Well I think that knives makes a person more badass because a guy who specalizes in knives takes an everyday item and tranforms it into a piece of splatter art :D
Think only that Riddick wouldn't be seen as extrordinary if he used a bow for the kill but he didn't, instead he used a cup of tea ;)

  14. not necessarily, an assassin yes, because he at least trains to use daggers (not knives). Knives is an everyday use for the petty criminal or the low psycho. While the bow, it needs style. Besides, only an expert can kill while being calm to shoot. Yeah but Riddick could also kill with a glove or something so he doesnt count

  15. also tea is more badass than everything we just said combined

  16. pfff you win this one, but know that I still like knives, which is a close relative to daggers, and I will get you next time bow fun :P

  17. Also I am a bit late, but bows for the win. Long range and very Hunger Games. Katniss anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok I admit that even though the bow is pretty simple here she looks cool :D

And a skilled guy with a knife will be invisible from long range and with great ability for throwing knives for a bit shorter range ;)

  19. I'm the only who didn't manage to get through the movie? I was bored *shifty*

  20. @Silvestro: you DO realize that bow skills comes with good skills of observation and tracking. So my friend the knife dude would be invisible to all but the ranger. 1 POINT FOR US BOO YAH!

    @TheGirlOnFire marry me? :P

    ReplyDelete
  21. @JohnnyB: So the final battle is between the stealth skills of the knife dude and the observation skills of the ranger, if stealth wins bow is down, if the ranger spots him knife is down.

  22. @Silvestro: more or less, unless they work together, so in that case its just arrows and backstabs out of nowhere
