Ranger's Apprentice 5: The Sorcerer Of The North

Will’s first adventure as a full-fledged Ranger!

Time has passed since the apprentice and his master, Will and Halt, led the Araluens to victory against invaders, and Will is now a full-fledged Ranger with his own fief to look after. The fief seems sleepy -- boring, even -- until the king is poisoned. Joined by his friend Alyss, Will is thrown headfirst into an extraordinary adventure propelled by fears of sorcery, and must determine who is trustworthy to the king and who is trying to take his throne.

Will and Alyss must battle growing hysteria, traitors, and most of all, time. The king is fading, but when Alyss is taken hostage, Will is forced to make a desperate choice between loyalty to his mission and loyalty to his friend.

Adventure abounds in this absorbing installment of the New York Times bestselling series.

REVIEW:
So here are 2 books that really stand up for the rangers series (the story continues to the Siege Of Macindaw). At this book you actually see Will without Halt, at his first mission as a Ranger and not as an apprentice. The good thing is that you see the way Will has grown, as well as you get to see what the ranger's job is also about, other than shooting things. The book kept my interest throughout the series and I actually devoured the books. I really liked them, you get to see a more "inspector" aspect of the ranger, being more of a diplomat and doing detective work working undercover and such. However as this is a kids series, you older readers out there will see through the plot pretty easily as well as know what exactly is going to happen. For the younger readers however it will be a great story that will hook them up to the book and wont want to stop reading ( I know I did). I still recommend this series to young readers out there. I think that this series and Harry Potter are the top fantasy books that kids from 9-16 SHOULD read.
