Series We Loved: Hercules

In this quasi-mythological costume series, Hercules (in Greek Herakles), the noble bastard son of Zeus, hence hated to death by his step-mother Hera, doesn't live as an Olympian after accomplishing his Works and the Argonauts' journey, as classical myth has it, but relinquishes immortality and continues to fight both human and supernatural evil on earth, as a wanderer in and beyond Greece, usually accompanied by his human side-kick Iolaus and sometimes by dodgy Salmoneus. Countless are the challenges, either especially set up by Hera or just on his way, but he always triumphs against all odds, delivers otherwise often hopeless mortals and moves on to new adventures.

Why we loved it?
I know what you will say...you where whining about a book that messed up Greek Mythology and you liked that? There is a big difference between them. Hercules is just so EPIC that you can't be mad with it. It's badass, awesome, funny and messes with the greek mythology with style. Plus, the main actor is Kevin Sorbo..so hands down people! Anyway. Hercules is another series that i grew up with (yeah, i watched TV a lot...shhhh now) and of course never missed an episode. My fav character was Iolaus (who also guest starred at Legend of the Seeker before they stopped it -.- ) who as in every good story, was the funny-stupid character best friend of the hero, etc. Even now, i know i will enjoy each one of the episodes and make my day!

In case you are wondering...yeah i was watching Xena too and yeah she is will have a post too soon!

  3. Lets get things straight. Hercules did not mess greek mythology, he butchered it in such a way that if you take a steak grind it, burn it to ashes and spread them on the wind, it will STILL be more consistent than what Hercules did in Greek mythology. BUT I agree with Yiota. Hands down people. Hercules does everything with style, so who cares if Hercules ends up in the middle east, who cares if he lives up to about 100 years more than the original Hercules, who cares that instead of just 12 tasks he practically changes the course of Greek history. Its an epic show and I would like to see it once more!

  9. Xena is a lot more fake, and it is a lot less serious by its very nature. Meaning that in Xena they KNOW they are messing with things and they are open about it. (Remember the episode when Iolaus was a reporter, yes with a tuxedo and stuff and he was chasing after Xena asking her questions?)

@Athanasia: I am trying to find the series on the internet and i cant seem to!
