Nick and his brother, Alan, have spent their lives on the run from magic. Their father was murdered, and their mother was driven mad by magicians and the demons who give them power. The magicians are hunting the Ryves family for a charm that Nick's mother stole -- a charm that keeps her alive -- and they want it badly enough to kill again. Danger draws even closer when a brother and sister come to the Ryves family for help. The boy wears a demon's mark, a sign of death that almost nothing can erase...and when Alan also gets marked by a demon, Nick is desperate to save him. The only way to do that is to kill one of the magicians they have been hiding from for so long.
Ensnared in a deadly game of cat and mouse, Nick starts to suspect that his brother is telling him lie after lie about their past. As the magicians' Circle closes in on their family, Nick uncovers the secret that could destroy them all.

REVIEW:
That is a dark dark book and i totally loved it.
Plot summary? 'Nuff said at the official one. No spoiling guys!
So here we have a very dark book with magicians and demons. The story runs in our world, at London and around it. Most scenes were written at night. The flow is normal. Not fast but not slow as well. It has its moments. The descriptions of the places and the creatures are so well written that you are a bit afraid when you read them. You know, with the whole dark environment and what will happen to the characters. Definetelly it's captivating and i did only one break, just to sleep at night. It's interesting, clever, unique and with lots of action.
On Nick is the guy who we actually follow at the story. I have read in books about bad young boys but never really find one til now. He is killer, a murderer, and the only thing he cares is his brother. He doesn't have a problem to sacrifice his mum or everyone else who he finds annoying or doesn't fit well at his plan. He reminds me of a character that Johnny created. Though, Johnny's character had feelings (and he was pretty bad ass to that matter JohnnyB). Of course i totally loved him! Hehehe...
Alan is Nick's brother and he is the most kind person i ever know. He risks his life for others even if he doesnt know them. And he does everything for Nick as well. Even though sometimes he was acting really stupid, i think i liked him a lot.
As for the rest characters we don't get to know them a lot yet. They are important but we learn only what Nick thought important to learn for them. So as you guess not much. Everyone though, is well described and written. Full personalities who at the whole story stay how they are and not change their thoughts suddenly in the middle.
I most definetelly recommend the book to you. If you like fantasy books with not much romance but with action, battles and blood i think you will really like it^^

ReplyDeleteof course he was badass! Team Dargor <2
ReplyDeletealso i would like to add 2 things, for starters you make him sound gay lmao, "he had feelings", everyone has feelings, he just seemed more....well realistic, even a blood lusting mass murderer has feelings he share with people, though most of the time those feelings are not pleasant and involve sadism :P. And 2nd the name was stolen from Rhapsody Of Fire, they even have a song called "Dargor, Shadowlord Of The Black Mountain"
