Movies VS Books: Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone

One of the most legendary movie series coming to an end this year. It's been about a decade from the first Harry Potter and now the last one will be released in two parts. Next week actually. The books and movies of HP are a phenomenon worldwide and kept us company from 1997. For me, as i have said before, they were the books who made me start reading. Anyway..no more melo...i thought it would be good to do a Movies VS Books for them now we are closing to the new movie. I will do it for all the movies of HP, maybe not week by week but sure will come. So here we are with the start of this world...

Story Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first film in the Harry Potter series based on the novels by J.K. Rowling. It is the tale of Harry Potter, an ordinary 11-year-old boy serving as a sort of slave for his aunt and uncle who learns that he is actually a wizard and has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is snatched away from his mundane existence by Hagrid, the grounds keeper for Hogwarts, and quickly thrown into a world completely foreign to both him and the viewer. Famous for an incident that happened at his birth, Harry makes friends easily at his new school. He soon finds, however, that the wizarding world is far more dangerous for him than he would have imagined, and he quickly learns that not all wizards are ones to be trusted.

Where The Book Wins?
I think biggest part of the winning of the book is the more scenes it has and more info on the story. There are scenes like Hermione's challenge at the end of it which is not in the movie. Or the first chapter from how the world was acting the very first day after Voldemort "died". Rowling's writing is easy reading and enjoyable. It's the my less favourite HP book since i find it too childish and simple in a way. Not that i don't love it.

Where The Movie Wins?
Oh well...you actually see the world. It's reality. It made magic exists. You are getting so into it that's difficult to believe it's not true. The characters, maybe not so talented (at least the young ones), but picked out perfectly for me. Especially the teachers. And in difference with the book, it became less childish. The end is much creepier than in the book. For a kid, always. And the music...wow..another and different magic itself. I will admit when i don't really like to read the 1st book, i have seen the 1st movie more than every other else.

Final Winner*: The Movie

*The Final Winner(for me) is the one who at the end i enjoyed more.

  1. Oh, I have never read the books but I did a movie marathon last summer at the request of some friends (ok more threats than requests *g*) and I liked all of them!
My fave is the third movie though and maybe the 5th too! :)

  2. Cool. THE Harry Potter Series were also the books which made me start reading:) But I'd pick the books over the movies. You were right about everything in the movie but the plot is just too disappointing compared to the books. I know it's hard to sum up a book of more than 700 pages to a 2 hour movie, but it's still lacking. Anyway, I respect your opinion:):)

  3. You are right about the movie. The first movie still remains my favorite among all the HP movies.I was a bit disappointed in the later movies.

  5. I agree with smileforidk:), the book defenatly wins for me. Rowling's writing is exeptional, she is a very talented writer. I was actually very disappointed from the first movie, it couldn't capture the "magic", and the end it wasn't scary, Volt. was very funny.. lol

Yiota i agree with you that the selection of the characters was very good, they are the same with the image i had for them before the movie!!

Enyway harry poter's books are my favorite ones, when you read them you just can't stop, i used to read the last book before my exams in high school and i just stuck, it calmed me in a weird way !
