No Ordinary Family, TV Series Review

After 16 years of marriage, Jim (Michael Chiklis) feels disconnected from his workaholic wife, Stephanie (Julie Benz), and two teenage children, Daphne (Kay Panabaker) and JJ (Jimmy Bennett). To encourage family bonding time, Jim decides the family will join Stephanie on her business trip to South America. When their plane crashes into the Amazon River, they barely enjoy a moment to celebrate their survival before returning to the grind of everyday life. But they will soon realize that their lives have been forever changed. Each member of the family starts to show signs of new, unique and distinct super powers.

REVIEW:
No Ordinary Family is Incredibles. At least they changed their powers.

Anyway, after an airplane accident the family has now powers ( Dad=super strong, Mum= fast, daughter=mind reader, son=super clever). So we follow, as they learn more about them and keeping them secret. In the meantime, dad plays superhero and saves people while mum's company boss is an evil scientist who create humans with superpowers.

The show was going well at the first 5-6 episode but then it became boring. The plot was stopped and most episodes were pretty much the same (dad saves people, etc). By the time, it start becoming interesting again (around 4 episode before the end) they announced the show was not only canceled but they also cut it short one episode. Not a nice move. They made us keep up with them, and by the time the family starts to work together as superhero team they cancel it.

I wasn't impressed by the acting. The dad was good but not a nice choice for me. Every time he was on, i was like he is so like his role as the Rock guy at Fantastic Four. Daughter and mother were the most interested persons to follow along with the son who were non existent at times. Best chars were the sidekicks, the geek assistant and the tech lawyer. They were more fun than any other on the show.

Also, the boss guy got on my nerves since he was an actor i knew really well but i wasn't letting myself to check IMDB who was. I wanted to remember by myself. Took me 19 episodes, to see he was the father from Seventh Heaven.

I can't say i recommend it except if you are bored and having else to do. It's not that bad, but since they cancel it doesn't really deserve to watch it.

  1. From your review it doesn't seem like the best show around. I will avoid it then.

  2. @Misha: it will stop with a cliffhanger. what's the point to watch it when there is nothing going on later? XD

  4. i watch the series and i don't regret it, even though it is canceled it doesn't end with a cliffhanger. you can watch it and consider it as a movie and not a series... it was nice for me

actually i thought it got boring at some point too but generally i enjoyed it.

the Dad was nice, he was a good choice for the role, but the mother was way too hot to be his wife! and the fight he had with "himself" it was so disgusting, two bold man fighting it was bad.

i really didn't like the Daughter at all, but i loved the son, his superpower was the coolest, he could do anything!

the Mother was nice too, i like that actress

i didn't like that much the sidekicks, they both were really fake, the geek assistant was so annoying and so fake geeky and the tech lawyer was fake too, how could he have access to all those stuff?

to sum up it was a good show but some moments were REALLY fake, like when Katy had the baby at home and then she was fine without medical care, or the body of the mothers boss, so fake
