Old Movies Part I

Recently i had a change of heart and for some reason, i started re-watching old movies. I will handle the reviews in 3 parts.
Part I: Zoom, Sky High, It's A Boy Girl Thing, The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec
Part II: Becoming Jane, The Pacifier, The Dark Is Rising

In Revolution Studios' comedy Zoom, Tim Allen plays Jack, formerly Captain Zoom, an out-of-shape former superhero who has lost his powers. Jack is reluctantly called back into action to turn a ragtag group of kids into a new generation of superheroes and save the world from certain destruction.

REVIEW:
That's probably my favourite movie with Tim Allen. I'm not really fan of his. His acting missing something and at least in this one was funny. What i like a lot in this movie, is that big part of it is the training of the new heroes. And i'm sure you can imagine how fun that can be. Most superheroes movies are more into the relationships and the action but this one gave training a bigger part. All of the kids were really great in their roles, except maybe the big guy who turns invisible. He was a new actor and you could see it.
The only really special superpower was Courtney Cox's (yeah she's in too) with the air whistling or something. The script has some good lines and they had took care of it and the special effects still look really good even after the 5 years that have passed (in visual effects that time is a big period of change).

Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) is full of teen angst about friends, grades, and girls... in other words, Will is just another suburban teen about to start high school. If that isn't enough to deal with, Will has the added pressure of being the third generation of the Stronghold family to attend the esteemed and celebrated Sky High. This elite school is entrusted with the responsibility of molding today's power-gifted students into tomorrow's superheroes. The only problem... Will is starting his freshman year without any super powers of his own. Labeled a sidekick, Will is bullied by the jock with the power to stretch, humiliated by a kid with super speed, stalked by the outcast who shoots fire from his hands, and teased the cheerleader who can replicate herself into an entire cheer squad. Worst of all, he must hide all of his troubles or face the disappointment of his parents, the crime-fighting duo - The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston) - the most revered and beloved superheroes in the business today.

REVIEW: Another superhero movie! This one stands out for the originality. Superheroes are not only famous, but people also know their names and their real jobs in this one. That's why when the magic bus for the heroes schools turns on the street no one really notice. While of course big part of the movie is the story with the epic villain, another one is how different everyone acts and bully the sidekicks. At the end the sidekicks kick some ass along with some heroes. There is also action, fun, romance, friends, fights, secret lairs...it's full of the usual hero things. I don't have anything bad to say about the actors. They were all really good and they really matched with their characters. I can watch it again and again and enjoy it like it was first time. The special effects were once again really good, despite the fact that the movie is not one of the big ones.

Sworn enemies find themselves in each other's bodies, and use this to ruin each other's lives.

REVIEW:
Now that's not a really good movie. It's poor done from almost every aspect. The only good thing about it is Kevin Zegers who really is a great actor. He haven't disappoint me, so far. But now you ask.."why did u watch it then?" The answer is that is one of the most real teenage movies i've seen. Well of course not the switch bodies thing, but their reactions are priceless. Especially things that a boy doesn't know about a girl and the opposite. For that, i watched it again. It make me giggle.

Published since 1976, with nine novels to date, Aventures is set between 1911 and 1922 in a Paris traumatized by World War I.

Their heroine, Adele Blanc-Sec, a fetching popular novelist pursued by dumb cops, monsters, rancorous villains and wannabe lovers, is sometimes taken as an early feminist figure in French comic books.

REVIEW:
If you don't like French stop reading now. The movie is French, though i watched it in Mandarin (can you believe English weren't available?) cause i don't like them either.
It was weird. It had dinosaurs, weird humor (sometimes), Egyptians, necromancy, some Indiana Jones and at the end i saw Titanic too. So apart of this interesting (?) story, which i founded a bit feminist too, it has some other worth mentioned things.
The special effects were wow. Everything was actually remind me of the big Hollywood movies. It didn't luck a thing. It was enjoyable adventure i have to say. Just watch the trailer and you will see how good job was done with it.
If there was an English version i wouldn't mind to re-watch it.

Review:

Spacepirate personal log: Yesterday I managed to evade those pests of the space guard and finally raided a ship. The ship, to my disapointment, wasn't full of gold but it was full of pointy hats, long sticks and suspicious looking, unmarked dvds. When I tried to play the unmarked and mysterious dvds a weird, funny and very very buggy game was installed. It was called Magicka and it is said to be a product of some small company that sells it quite cheap and had the guts to release 12 updates to fix every single bug in the game. This game entagled me in a funny and interesting world of magic and Vlad, who keeps saying that he is not a vampire. It's a world that goblins, orcs and evil warlocks roam the kingdom and torture the common peasants, which I butchered with fireballs :D, and only one, or four, wizard(s) can save the world.

Graphics: They have really great animations and spell effects, they even have clothes that get wet or on fire. It can't be compared to some monstersharks out there such as crysis and assassin's creed but 10 minutes in the game is enough to love those graphics engine, which by the way is a product of the XNA engine released by microsoft.

Story: The most fun story I have ever seen in action-rpgs. It has many many references to movies, songs and games, I found the references to star wars and the 300 movie the funniest. The npcs are, most of the time aware that they are in a game and that is the source of many great dialoges. Other than that its the same old story about monsters torturing the realm under the commands of an evil mastermind and the hero who stands alone, or with 3 others in coop, against the hordes of the evil creatures.

Gameplay: Once the players gets used to the weird controls, the gameplay is great. The player can combine the forces of nature to invent a great variaty of spells that each have a weakness and a strength against some type of enemies. Also there are some awesome weapons to dispatch of enemies quickly, cause spellcasting takes some time, such as the Excalibur, an automatic weapon, MP25 I think, and a Lightsaber. There were plenty of bugs when it was released but after 12 updates the game is tottaly fixed and playable. There is even a hotseat option to play on one pc with up to 3 gamepads for cooperative mode. Also friendly fire is always enable so duels are allowed even in coop mode ;)

Spotlight List: Epic Fail Villains

Spotlight List is a totally awesome meme by Small Review, and its actually one of the things that grows my TBR every week. Every week, we create a theme and then we do a top list on it. Small Review already has Spotlight Posts about Fantasy, Gothic, Historical Fiction, Retold Stories you might want to check out.
Every week, one of us will pick a theme and create the list. Then everyone will comment on this list!

The guys only know the comments from the person who picked the theme and did the choices. They haven't seen the rest.

Before you start with this week spotlight i would like to tell you that's part of a big series of Spotlight i have scheduled. Cause it's really nice to Spotlight stories in general, but there are some times that we just love some certain parts of those stories so much that we enjoy them again and again only cause of those things. So prepare for Spotlights on characters, scenes, battles, worlds, second characters, romance, fun stuff and much much more to come!

Epic Fail Villains
by Yiota

Well..there is a huge list waiting with characters and other things worth mentioning but i picked the last one of all i created with Johnny (see?i mentioned you!). Here we are with the epic fail villains list, because sometimes we just love them to much no matter how worthless (johnny's note: or how funny and anti-intimidating) they are! The fact is that some of them make you wanna hear/watch their stories again and again while some others you just want them to die! Of course the next list will feature some serious villains! All of them are from movies in this one.

Demodar (Dungeons & Dragons)
Yiota: Easily has one of the first spots. When you see it first time you are like "blue lips?what the hell?" and then you start laughing like hell. Then you hear his epic strong voice and then what he actually says, which pretty much can be concluded to "after them" -"kill them" and phrases like that. He has no plans and his an absolute puppet of Jeremy Irons. But what can you say huh? He really does stand out, doesn't he? And i need to admit that i didn't know that guy was Bruce Payne until this post!
Johnny: Easilly my favorite fail villain. I mean look at him! just look at him. I think this dude is the only person that could be serious threat to me if I was an epic character (Sighs) because the moment I would look at him and the whole image and then he spoke, I would laugh so hard I would forget that there are people that want to kill me!
Silvestro: Well this movie was really bad and this guy was almost the source of all laughter for me :D He wasn't a serious villain but I liked him.
Nina: I don't know the guy, but he doesn't look scary. But he looks like the common plain evil guy who loves to harm others.
Athanasia: I have no idea who that is, but the make up is seriously wrong !

Orc Leader (LOTR: The Return of the King)
Yiota: I know you know who the guy is. He killed some people and thought he was badass. Spitting on the rocks that were falling and not be afraid. I was so happy when he died. Unfortunatelly for him, he is still NOT cool for a villain. Nice try though. Maybe in your next life!
Johnny: Badass? what kind of villain hero gets stomped on by the first charge! I mean really? the dude in the back with the skull in his head (Seriously mordor? Dang you need some stylist help to look more menacing and evil) was more badass. At least he died by an epic cool army of undead and Aragorn and not some random Rohan dude with a horse.
Silvestro: Believe it or not I didn't even notice this fella in spite of his size... When I think about Lord of the Rings villains I see a guy in full armor and a white wizard, not Ghadalf of course the other guy. Maybe that's because he has no personality or free will.
Nina:  I wonder how many hours the actor had to stay on the make-up department....He is so ugly....
Athanasia: even if he is scary he is a lame villain, I never liked that guy..

Lana (The Librarian)
Yiota: Uh...Kelly Hu...someone must forgot to tell her that when you are (a) villain you DO NOT praise or fall in love with the good guy. Actually no...she was just...erm...i mean you see the good guy falling from a plane and screams "ohhh noooo..help meeee"..you conclusion is "oh my god! look how fearless and awesome he is!"??...i'm not really sure i want to know what's going on in her mind. (Secret: i totally loved her in the movie and i was wishing to go with the good guy at the end but don't tell anyone that)
Johnny: I love her! Seriously just look at her! She is so epic! What kind of villain goes like "OH MY GOD LOOK WHAT HE DID! HE MUST HAVE EVERYTHING PLANED!" when the hero CLEARLY just does stuff on random. If I was the librarian I would so chose her over the "good" girl. (Also look at her style, i mean...what is there not to like? badass pretty girl with a gun? common!)
Silvestro: I haven't watched the librarian but this black and white hairstyle inspires fear to dogs and men alike :D
Nina: She is the prettiest of all in the list....I don't remember see the movie though....Anyway, she doesn't look evil, but I like her style....
Athanasia: no idea who that is too and once again seriously wrong make up. (why do all the villains have to look ridiculous?)

White Cat (Cats & Dogs)
Yiota: that's one of Johnny's pick and i have no idea why he picked it so i will just skip this one. I really do hate cats though!
Johnny: Because it is SUPER fail for a villain to be a pet of someone and not be the one OWNING the pet. And second of all, he was being dressed by old grannies. Seriously how can you pass as a villain when you are dressed like a fcking ballerina!
Silvestro: Come on why is Mr. Tinkles in this list, I really liked his attitude, he had the evil mastermind speach and the plans of uncontrollable disaster. Well he lost at the end but all villains do so that's not a reason to put him with other failed villains.
Nina: Creepy....That cat made me hate cats, and I like cats (not as pets, but as animals)....
Athanasia: are you crazy?? The white cat is not a fail villain at all, he had a plan, a strategy, millions of cats working for him. He was a great villain and one of my favorite, an epic fail villain was Kitty Galore from cats and dogs

Gaston (Beauty & The Beast)
Yiota: I just hate that guy! He was USELESS. There was no reason for his existence and he tryed to kill the awesome Beast! Screw you man! You are not worthy the villain name. You can't do anything right!
Johnny: Agree! he did absofuckinglutelly nothing. I mean look at him! Even his look and appear is crap!!! LOOK! How can he pass as a bad guy! He looks more like an epic fail of a good guy!
Silvestro: I always wanted the beast to change back to his evil self, before he started thinking about women and became a slave of the dress, and dismember this guy limb from limb in front of the heroine. But that would make the fairy tale too violent for children so I was left with the unfulfilled wish...
Nina: I've seen the movie many times....I think he was the only bad guy who was just a human being....I don't mind him, but when he tries to kill the Beast I change my mind....
Athanasia: don’t know him either..

Mass Effect 2 Review

Mass Effect is an award-winning, bestselling series of science fiction RPG third person shooters developed by the Canadian company BioWare and released for the Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows and, from the second installment, for the PlayStation 3. The first game in the planned trilogy centers around a player created character named Commander Shepard and their mission to save the galaxy from a race of mechanical beings known as the Reapers, and its followers, including the brainwashed Saren Arterius. The first game sees Shepard facing Sovereign, a Reaper left as a vanguard, who plans to allow the Reaper fleet currently hibernating in extra-galactic dark space to invade the Milky Way and destroy all sapient organic life, continuing a mysterious cycle of destruction. The second game takes place two years later, and sees Shepard battling the Collectors, an alien race abducting entire human colonies in a plan to help the return of the Reapers. The third and final game will likely center on the final battle against the Reapers.
Since the beginning the series has been a major critical success. Both games have received critical acclaim for their storyline, characters, voice acting, choices, and the depth of the galaxy.[1][2] Video game website, GamesRadar, called Mass Effect the best new franchise of the generation, saying that the galaxy was so well-constructed that it felt like a decades-old franchise and that it represented "a high-water mark for video games as a story-telling medium."[3]

REVIEW *radio on* This is Commander Johnny speaking, do are we clear? GAH! I have told you before Bauss, dont sneak up on me! Ok. I am commencing the review. All systems go.
Now, as many of you do NOT know I have a preference for Sci Fy stories. For some reason I kinda like them more than many fantasy stories. I do not know why. DONT JUDGE ME! Now, on to the review. I love this game. Though I have not played the first, for some reason, I loved this game. It is just amazing! The graphics are wow! gameplay? easy to learn and challenging to master! the story is amazing! the characters are epic (the picture is of Tali Zorah Vas Normandy, she is just amazing. Personal favorites are Tali, Garrus, Jack, Kasumi and Thane, though all of them are awesome). It is just an amazing game. I have played it over and over again to unlock stuff and experience the different awesome classes! This game is a must for all gamers, especially those that are into sci fy stuff like me.

Now Yiota asked a good question. She asked why I like those things? Well good question my Baws (lonely Island refference).
Now, the graphics were extremely realistic and breathtaking, I felt i was watching and playing a movie! Although they still lack the awesomeness of movies, they are really really good, you really feel like you watch a movie more than you play a game.
The gameplay? it is interesting how it combines the first person shooters with the rpg genre. You can walk around, duck behind cover, use your powers but mostly it focuses around you aiming and gunning down your enemies.
The characters are deep and each has his own personality and story and they are all worth the time you have to spend to learn them and do their own personal missions.

The storyline is interesting and although many hardcore sci-fyers might find it a bit cliched, I found it really well built, it made sense. It was not just hey hello we are an evil alien race that just wants to kill everything, nothing personal. Everything has an explanation and a reason. It is a well orchestrated story, well build and with some interesting plot twists. To end with I think that the classes you are called upon to choose are really responding to their gameplay meaning that they are straightforward and are focused on a particular way of playing that you can adjust to your personal game style but they WILL orient you towards a certain way. What I mean? well lets take 2 classes for instance, the Vanguard and the Sentinel. The vanguard is an offensive class, with an awesome charge ability that you practically charge and fall right in the face of an enemy. Since that is so aggressive some people might say, hmmm then I need to just up some defensive stuff and he will be the absolute player. Well guess what my friend! You cant do that! You will have to adjust your way of playing to compensate for the fact that you will charge in the face of an enemy so you wont be stupid enough to charge in the middle of 15 enemies and generally play aggressively but not carelessly.
On the contrast, the Sentinel is a more defensive character that if played correctly simply cant die. So you will have to make sure your character uses that, by being something like a tank person. Kill the weak enemies since you can take on plenty of fire, so your companions wont die. Off course the way you choose to play your class is clearly up to you, since you can use combinations of the class's skills to suit your gamestyle.

Overall I think it is a very fascinating game, worth the time spend and it is certainly worth playing for all, story-music-gameplay etc. I have to go now, we have an possible hostile incoming at our 6. ENGAGE DEFENSIVE MANEUVERS *radio off*

(NOTE: I have had a severe argument with paragraphs as you all might noticed, so Yiota makes sure they come to my posts. They like her, but I dont talk to them)

The Sims Medieval Review

The Sims Medieval provides a medieval setting for the player to work within, with newly designed buildings and scenery to give an authentic "back in time" experience. Players will build a kingdom up, send Sims on quests, and earn rewards in the form of Kingdom Points. The game diverges from the series in that players can win the game by achieving a kingdom ambition. Confirmed ambitions include "Best In Show", "Busy Builder", "Efficient Expander", "Fame", "Filled Coffers", "Hard Workers", "Imperial Domination", "Legendary", "No Quest For The Weary", "Safe And Sound", "Thoughts And Prayers", and "Wealthy Populace". In a change from other Sims games, the character creation, simulation, and architectural aspects are significantly reduced and altered to enforce a sharper focus on RPG-style gameplay. For example, players will be able to customise the aesthetics and layout of building interiors, but they will be unable to alter the basic structure and shape of buildings.Instead, the game will involve the player upgrading a kingdom, choosing an ultimate goal for that kingdom (such as wealth or popularity) and then fulfilling quests that contribute to that goal. The goal can be completed through the use of heroes (or specialists). For example, the player can have a wizard and a physician cooperate on one quest or a knight and monarch in another. Focus, experience, and the traits of the Sim influence their success, and players may choose how the team will attempt to conduct the quest. Players will also choose which Sim will lead the team. Interestingly, The Sims Medieval will not be a generational game. Much like the first generation of the main series, The Sims, the characters in the game will not progress through life stages. The Sims will still be able to procreate, but those children will never age to adulthood. Sims will each have two normal traits and one fatal flaw, which can be turned into a positive trait through a quest, unlike the The Sims 3 where there are five main traits only depending on the age group.

Review:

I wasn't a fun of the series despite the fact that I have played most of them at least for 2 hours each. I got bored easily because there was no mission that I wanted to achieve. The only achievments one could get by playing the games were high carier position and lots of money but I found those a bit boring. In this game though there are actual epic missions with sorcery and DRAGONS, and we love dragons in this blog :D

Character creation: It is tottaly changed, now the player doesn't create a starting family, instead he/she creates a monarch for his/her kingdom and some heroes to help in the quests. Customisation is using the same engine but with much less clothing choices available. You can't even customize the pyjamas they are automaticly set. Of course there is a premade selection of characters and the good old random button.

Gameplay: Tottaly fixed. Now there are only 2 needs for each sim, hunger and energy. The boring 6 needs based games are over and a new era that sims get only hungry and sleepy has began. Of course there is a bath and a pot in the toilet but they are just for fun and quests now (yup there is actually a quest that requests the player to take a bath). Also I found extremelly relaxing the fact that the player doesn't control more than 3 sims at the same time, exception: many children, and the fact that the jobs are not in fixed hours they are just quests with deadlines. Moreover, many quests have alternative paths to follow, for example when an angry boar causes chaos in the kingdom you can either slay it or tame it. Finally the story telling in some of the big quests, slaying or befriending a dragon (♥) for example, is really inspiring and keeps you wanting more quests. The really bad thing is that after the player completes a kingdom purpose the whole game resets, buildings and characters and he/she has to start over for the next kingdom purpose.

Graphics: The standard sims graphics with a few tweeks to drag the player in a medieval spirit. The combat animations with the swords are very primitive for an action-rpg game but for sims they are really cool. The bitter part here is that the dragons are not animated, they are sketches in the quest book but they are cool sketches :D

REVIEW:
That was a small book that also ended fast.

Kim Bowman's writing had some really good descriptions if you keep in mind that book was only 57 pages. They were the exact amount of it was necessary for you to know. There times of course i had questions of Zanna's World but they didn't have anything to do with the story. Just my curiosity. The action scenes were really good! They were the best part of the story (even more than the story itself which was really interesting). I could really feel them like i was in there. They were alive.

If i didn't like something was that i felt some times the story was written in hurry or maybe better like everything was trying to fit in those 57 pages while it could use much more. I know i would liked it more, if it was more extended since i would have the chance to let know more about the characters and the world. I could see they were characters with depth, but i didn't learn much about them.

Overall it was a really cute read. I did enjoy it and i think it's easy to read it again and again, in case you wanna fill some time.

Thanks the Kim Bowman and E-Book Tours for the copy of the book.

Assassin's Creed : Brotherhood Review

Take the role of an Assassin, not by choice but by legacy, in a secret war for no less than the free will of humanity. Desmond, the main hero, is a peaceful bartender living his life as a normal guy but one day he is abducted by a secret organization, the templars. Those guys want to control the mind of people and dominate the world destroying the free will that humans so appreciate. Desmond, with the help of a machine called Animus relives the memories of his ancestrors who were elite members of another secret group, the Assassins. The Assassins fight the templars to protect the free will. In the first Assassin's Creed game he enters the world of Altaïr Ibn la-Ahad who is an Assassin in the middle east in the crusades era. In the second game Desmond is saved by an Assassin who posed as a templar and he joins the other members of the Assassin's cell. Then they present him with another Animus device they aquired just for him. He now enters the world of Ezio Auditore da Firenze in renaisance Italia. In Assassin's Creed : Brotherhood desmond finds out how Ezio created a new Assassin's Brotherhood and he was named their Mendor, which is the title of their leader. After so many hours in the Animus Desmond now have learned the arts of the Assassins but with a heavy price...

Review:

There is no doubt that this is the best game in the series, in gameplay, graphics and story. Many players have complained that the assassin's creed games are boring because there are some fixed mini-missions that players have to complete before the main mission, the murder. Those mini-missions are always the same in different settings and with different details so it can get a bit boring doing them again again for each mission. In assassin's creed brotherhood though that routine doesn't exist at all. The negative thing here is that the whole game, with an exception of 10-20 minutes is taking place in a single town, Roma but this is what breaks the routine. All the mini-missions can be found around the city whenever the player wants a break from the main quests, which are not only murders in this game. As the story progresses new mini-missions appear on the map. Those mini-missions are absolutely optional, in fact the player gets only money, equipment, achievments and map awareness by completing them. Well I completed them all before starting each main quest and I didn't get bored but then I didn't get bored doing the quests on the previous assassin's creed like some other players that may be writing reviews on this blog... ;)

If you are familiar with the assassin's creed series then you know that the graphics were of the best quality out there since the first game and they only made them better in the next games. I can even see water dripping from my clothes when I get into a river or the sea.

The story is the best in the series because it doesn't follow the mini-missions, murder, cutscene routine again and again, it actually tells a story like an interactive movie, which achives the feeling that you are really in Animus. At some point you can feel like an Italia mafia boss ( Godfather style :D ) when you save people from the guards and they become your assassins which you can command to kill someone just by whistling at them.

Finally I have to say that Leonardo Da Vinci does some incredible devices in the game, like a tank that shoots cannonballs or a bomber plane, which lead to some incredibly fun mini-quests.

The Warrior's Way, Review

In theaters December 3, 2010 is The Warrior's Way, a visually-stunning modern martial arts western starring Korean actor Dong-gun Jang who plays an Asian warrior assassin forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands. Rounding out the ensemble cast are Kate Bosworth, Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush, Danny Houston, and Tony Cox. The fantasy action film was written and directed by newcomer Sngmoo Lee, and is being produced by Barrie Osborne, Michael Peyser and Jooick Lee.

REVIEW:
We had a discussion with the rest of the cinema-buddies about the movie before we watch it. From the trailer, we could see two things: 1.the movie would be totally awesome 2.the movie will be such and epic fail that will be awesome again! At both, the predict was good..so we went to see it!

The final result was #2. It was an epic fail but we LOVED it. I will explain some things, before you start thinking i'm totally crazy.
-That guy here at the poster..he supposed to be a really famous Asian actor, according the trailer. Unfortunately none of us knew him. I think he was good at his acting. He didn't speak a lot though. He is like the best swordsman alive. And while, you think "yeah yeah...but someone at the end will come and we will have an epic battle with him", there is actually no one stronger. He is the strongest guy. He could kill a dozens of men (maybe more!) with just one attack with his sword. Overpower eh? It was kinda cool though. and we didn't get an epic final battle with bosses! Chuck Norris will have some serious problems against this guy!
-The rest casting is...i'm not sure. okay, Geoffrey Rush was fantastic but his character was another super cool guy with secrets..and crazy. Kate Bosworth...haha...she must be the most fail student ever! At the lessons with the assasin he could actually dodge some of his attacks! At real fight? I can fight better than her! Not only she was tripping and losing her weapons but she also almost killed herself. We wanna think it was just the "shock" that made her act like that.
-Special effects were totally amazing! But i didn't like how much easy was to see them around the movie. I didn't think it was matching with the rest of the film. Also the story, didn't really make sense sometimes but we managed to enjoy it!

Lastly...some questions that never will be answered!
-Why it was raining rose petals? Where and when did they appear?
-How the assassins appeared from the sky? We strongly believe they came with an airplane even though they didn't exist at the time...oh oh..maybe a zeppelin!
-And why one of the good guys, at the last scene he wears the assassins' clothes? It doesn't even make sense!

Final result: Do not try to mix hollywood and asian movies. Maybe they are fun but.....

E-book Tours: Insight Review

Before that fateful summer night, Willow had balanced the insight of emotion, and the vivid images. That night, the figure in her nightmare marked her wrist with a star, giving her father no choice but to tell Willow a family secret that would abruptly change life, as she knew it, forever. Before Willow had time to absorb the shock of her father's secret, her soul mate that had shared every stunning dream with her, found her, and darkness captured her closest friends. In order to save them, she must weave through broken myths and the undeniable power of the Zodiac. In the end, Willow discovers that at the moment of our birth we are all given a divine gift.

REVIEW:
The key with this book its is simplicity. While is based on already used enough idea, the so called "destiny", the way its written makes it different. The dialogues are simple in a way that remind you the world around you and not something that was carefully written to sound good or cool. Same goes with the characters which are not too complicated but easily to connect with.

Best part of the story for me were the whole concept with the connection of Willow and Landen in the dreams. It sounds so cool and interesting! And totally makes you wanna read more and more! Well okay...the love story sometimes was too much and felt fake (you know the concept "can't be without you") but after all those romance young adult books i've read, i'm almost capable to ignore it.
Now, what really annoy me were the details. All of those who read my reviews, you know that i hate books with too many details. They make me bored. Same for Insight there were times that made me sleepy or confused.

You can say the book is balanced. It has its good and bad things, but it's a cool read.

Thanks the Jamie Magee and E-Book Tours for the copy of the book.

Burlesque : Review

About: Ali Rose (Christina Aguilera) is a young, hard-done-by girl who works in a bar in a small town in Iowa. Her boss hasn't paid her for two months and she has finally had enough. She takes what he owes her from the till and decides to leave for Los Angeles to pursue her dream of singing. After a fruitless day of searching for jobs in her new home, she winds up at a burlesque bar and becomes enthralled with the whole concept. She tries to persuade Tess (Cher) to let her go on stage but Tess won't hear her out. Ali meets the friendly bartender Jack (Cam Gigandet) and starts to waitress for him because she knows this is where she belongs. read more

***yiota was going to do this one, but she let me do it instead**

Review:
I heard about Burlesque from yiota and I had some doughs about it, but finally I decided to give it a try. Firstly Christina Aguilera amazed me, she was so natural, so passionate at her role, I really didn't see that coming and she made such a great combination with Cher! Who apparently was amazing too. The story is about a girl that decides to leave her small town and move to L.A. to have a better life, at the beginning of the movie Ali says to her friend that she is leaving because there is no one's life she would like to have in this town.. When she finally gets to L.A. There are some cliche's like: she is moving to a dirty hotel, her room get's mugged, she starts to write a post cart but she regrets it and then of course she meets a guy! This film and especially the beginning reminded me a lot of the film “Coyote Ugly” (actually one of my favorite!!). The story is very nice and sweet, with a happy ending and of course a twist before the end. The music is great, the songs are really nice and Christina Aguilera and Cher sing so beautiful! I loved all the dance routines, the girls are gorgeous and amazing dancers. Last but not least I loved Kristen Bell's performance, she was so good in her role, it was a different side of her, usually she portraits the good girl, so it was a nice change. Finally Stanley Tucci was as always great, I really like that guy! To sum up do not miss Burlesque, it will leave you with such a warm feeling. For me it is a 8.5/10.

The Switch : Review

About: Kassie Larson (Jennifer Aniston) decides she wants to have a baby. Despite the objections of her neurotic best friend Wally Mars (Jason Bateman), she chooses to do it alone, with the services of handsome and charming sperm donor Roland (Patrick Wilson). Wally has always had feelings for Kassie, but as his friend (Jeff Goldblum) points out, he missed his chance and she put him in the "friend zone". Kassie organizes an "insemination party", where Roland produces the sperm in the bathroom, and leaves the cup there. Wally uses the bathroom and sees the cup. Drunk, and not liking the idea of Kassie being inseminated with this sperm, he plays with the cup, and accidentally spills it into the sink. Panicking, he replaces the sperm with his own. Seven years later, Kassie returns to New York along with precocious-but-neurotic son Sebastian (Thomas Robinson). Wally forms a bond with this loveable mini-version of himself, but the bad news is that Roland is in the picture too. In the end, Wally reveals to Kassie that Sebastian is his son, along with his true feelings for her. At first she is angry, and she does not want to see him again, but Sebastian misses him; finally she breaks up with Roland. Wally proposes to her, and she accepts.

Review: The Switch is a classic romantic comedy staring Jennifer Aniston . The reason I watched it was because of her actually and i'm glad because her performance was really nice. There were some really funny scenes, with Kassie's son, he is exactly the same with Wally, “like father, like son”! My favorite scene is when Wally says to his son that hypochondriac is someone that thinks he has diseases he doesn't have, so the boy says “Oh, I think I have that” ! This movie is just ok, the actors are good, the story is kinda funny, but that is all there is. There is nothing more to it, it isn't a must watch, but also not something that you should avoid. For me it is a 5.5/10.

Zombieland, Review

In a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, a dysfunctional group of survivors with clashing personalities must find a way to get along without killing each other or themselves.

REVIEW:
I had doubts about this movie. Not the kind of liking or disliking it, but whether the movie was scary or not. The trailers are showing that's a comedy and I have to agree.

About the characters:
Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) is the zombie killer, the I-kill-zombies-and-I-like-it type of guy. He has a reason to hate zombies and he kills with style.
Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) is the nerd zombie killer. He has rules which follow in order to survive and he believes in them more than having fun.
Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) are the smart ones. They used to be thieves when people existed and they are thieves now. They used to be the two of them, but this changes after meeting the other two.

The movie wasn't scary, but thumbs-up to the make-up artists, the people who were dressed as zombies looked so real.
The directing part and the dialogues were really good too. I liked the way Columbus' rules appeared on the screen and they were repeating, even when Tallahassee was doing something opposite his rules, like "I told you so".

A weird thing, I felt the scene was like a prophecy to Jesse Eisenberg's future: They were all sitting together and they were telling what's the best thing about leaving in Zombieland. Columbus said that he liked the fact that he doesn't have to update his Facebook Profile. A year later Jesse Eisenberg stars in a movie based on the creaton of Facebook.
And something I really liked: They were in L.A. and they wanted a place to stay, so they decide to stay in a famous person's house and they started to argue in which famous person's house they should stay in. OK, I said enough, sorry if I spoiled anything.

Bottom line, I recommend you the movie, it was really good and it had some really funny moments. Now, Nut Up or Shut Up.

The Demon King, Review

Han has vowed that he will no longer steal, no matter how bad things get for his mom and sister. But life isn't easy, and the mysterious silver cuffs that have always been clasped to his wrists seem to promise no help for the future.

When Han catches wizards setting fire to the sacred mountain of Hanalea, he forces a confrontation-and gains possession of an amulet carried by one of the wizards. This is no ordinary amulet, however, and Han learns that it once belonged to the legendary evil Demon King. Knowing that the wizards will stop at nothing to reclaim the amulet, Han has to summon every ounce of his courage to ensure the amulet isn't used for worldwide destruction.

Cinda Williams Chima won accolades for her New York Times best-selling Heir Trilogy. The first of a new young adult trilogy, The Demon King features a sterling narration from acclaimed vocal talent Carol Monda.

REVIEW:
First i have to say how much i love the cover (and no it's not it has a dragon in it). I found it really epic and i wouldn't mind if i have a staff like it! :p

Cinda Williams writing was exactly how i like epic fantasy. There are times that fantasy writers with their own worlds, writing with too many details trying to explain their world better but it doesn't have the effect they want. Ms. Williams used her details where they were needed. She didn't hurried to explain her world from the start but was explaining everything necessary at their time.
The story also has many characters. And characters are another difficult subject in fantasy. If they are many and don't place them right, there is mess. Here they were placed from time to time and after you had already meet and knew a lot about the previous characters used. Even the secondary ones had full stories and you could see them real and important to the story.
The story itself was clever and original. Well of course there are demons, bad magicians, romance with knights but it feels different than the others. I couldn't really see through it and that's why i enjoyed. Everything felt totally new and i loved the way i was getting into it.

There was one negative thing that really annoy me. I was really confused with the places. The descriptions were perfect but i couldn't place them in the world. It was telling you where everything was placed but for some reason I really had no idea where what was and i wish the book had a map in!

Fantasy lovers should definetelly try it! Obviously it's not Martin's, Tolkien's, Feist's big huge epic fantasy worlds. It's a more lighter read in a smaller range than the ones i mentioned but it's still really good.

Season Of The Witch, Review

Oscar® winner Nicolas Cage (National Treasure, Ghost Rider) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Hellboy II) star in this supernatural action adventure about a heroic Crusader and his fellow soldier who must transport a woman accused of being a witch to a remote monastery. The arduous journey across perilous terrain tests their strength and courage as they discover the girl’s secret and find themselves battling a terrifyingly powerful force that will determine the fate of the world.

REVIEW (select the white parts to read the spoilers):
I remember like yesterday my friends and I at the cinema discussing on how much we wanted to watch this movie, and it's a year from that time. Unfortunatelly the Johnny missed it but i promised him we will watch it again with him when he gets back.

But did the movie was like what we were expecting? Yes and no!
At the first 5 mins i almost screamed. It was like epic creepy and i got afraid. I was like "opsiee...wrong movie". I know the two friends beside my felt like that too. At the next 10 mins we calmed down but that's when the comments started. There are scenes from crusades that Cage and Perlamn, supposed they took part and the only thing i remember was Xrisanthi whining that some of those Crusades don't exist and my comments on how their blades were ALWAYS clean! Not even a drop of blood! It was hilarious! After that, we finally closed our mouths and start paying attention.
The story was the company of some fighters, etc transport a witch to a monastery. It flowed really good, with mystery, action and i really liked it. It was creepy and stuff...until it came to the end. *SPOILER* At the end something odd happened. There was a transformation to a demon, and some weird ninja zombies. It just started to not make sense anymore and it became somewhat stupid.*SPOILER*

As for the charcters. Cage's characters was the "hero-good guy" but still badass. Nothing new there. There Perlman's character who was huge (we named him "Bear") and had some jokes and ironic comments most of the time. We had a priest, *SPOILER* which we wanted to die and eventually did but then we wanted him to live. *SPOILER* There was also a boy who wanted to be a knight and he had the most unique way to use his sword ( he was keeping it from the sharp side). Another guy, who i don't remember what he was, the driver and the witch. Oh the witch! The best casting of the film! She was creepy and sweet. You were "oh come on..she is so good and sweet and cute and beautiful" and later you were "oh my god!she is a witch! she will kill them all! weeeee". She was terrific, really! Nice job there!

I think that's all. I have mix feelings for the movie since it was fun, scary and weird. It was cool though! Now, it's your choice....

Out For Blood, Review

Hunter Wild is the youngest in a long line of elite vampire hunters, a legacy that is both a blessing and a curse at the secret Helios-Ra Academy, where she excels at just about everything. Thanks to her friendship with Kieran Black, Hunter receives a special invitation to attend the coronation of Helena Drake, and for the first time, she sees the difference between vampires that must be hunted and vampires that can become friends—or even more. When students at the academy fall victim to a mysterious illness, Hunter suspects they are under attack from within. She will need someone she can trust to help her save the future of Helios-Ra . . . help that shockingly comes in the form of Quinn Drake, a drop-dead gorgeous vampire. Who said senior year would be easy?

REVIEW:
I can't explain how happy i was when i got the copy at my hands. I'm just in love with those books. They are simple and funny.

And while Drake Chronicles #2 wasn't as good as the first and my interest fall some levels, this one make it go way up again.
There are two reason at the story why i liked this one more than the previous one. Of course it was again FULL of action and surprises, and the background story was well settled and kept you interested. But i what i liked most was:
-That we follow Quinn. Quinn is the one Drake brother who is every day with another girl but he is a really good guy at the same time. Like a prince something. So we get the chance, to see his pointview and she him actually fall in love. The way Ms.Harvey managed to keep in him in his character and don't change him totally for the girl was one of the bests i have seen. He kept his "i'm hot and i know it" style but at the same time he became caring towards the girl he really liked. And of course he knows how to really kick ass!
-Second was something totally new. The second pointview is from Hunter who is actually a vampire hunter from Helios-Ra. Finally we get to meet the world and the school of Helios-Ra. To see how they act, what to believe, what they learn and everything. Plus Hunter, was a really clever girl and she gave the vampires a chance to prove themselves no matter what her family believed. And i totally loved how open minded she was. She was an enjoyable character to read. Oh! And of course she was Quinn's love interest. It always go like this.

Additional we saw again characters of the previous books like Nicholas and Lucy, which are by far my fav ones. Or the whole Drake family actually XD Haha!

Anyway, totally worth a read! Of course it's better if you get the first two before.

Spotlight List: Cliche Phrases Which We Can't Just Get Enough Of Them II

Cliche Phrases Which We Can't Just Get Enough Of Them II (Part I)
by Johnny
*Yiota's msg: Many of the phrases were picked by Athanasia but we let Johnny do the scenes*

I thought of this because we all see movies and books, and those phrases are so cliched we dont even pay attention to them. So here are some of them, as well as some questions and things we have noticed about them now that we think about them.

This Is Not What You Think It Is!
the dude enters the house. He hears the whole wild monkey sex sounds from the bedroom. He busts the door open and he sees his girlfriend doing some crazy ass animal stuff with his friend. They both turn to him and yell THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK IT IS!
Johnny: Oh really? REALLY? COS I THINK YOU WERE PLAYING POKER! I mean really, is this the best you can do? I mean...what ELSE could it be? you find out you have something stuck in your mouth and he tries to reach it with his penis? I think you are trying it wrong either way. Its the most pathetic and cliched thing someone could say in this occasion
Athanasia: this is the most cliche phrase ever and what bothers me is that no one has the balls to stay and ask "so...what is it?", everyone leaves angry or shoots (yiota change the spelling) the guy !!
Nina: It's one of the classic ones. Seriously, I believe, that there is nothing else to say if you get caught doing something that you shouldn't. I burst into laughter everytime I hear it.
Yiota: 1.Athanasia i have no idea for what spelling you are talking about XD 2.Johnny thanks for the nice images you created in my mind! 3.I can stop laughing with this pic i put with the tiger...heheheh 4.It's funny that i think of an alternative for someone to say in this occasion...i mean what else can you do?stare or apologize?

"Mouahahahaha"
Why I do this you ask? Because i will conquer the world and then kill you! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Always followed with either "I will Conquer The World" or the "I want to see you suffer first" line by an evil person.
Johnny: Now, seriously, what is it with this laugh? Do all villains go to the same laughing school and learn to laugh like this to get their evil diploma? I mean they always laugh in the same way, facing the sky, with their hands croockedly shaped as if they are holding the power of everything in their hands. I so love this laugh, its so funny and cliched. I would like to see an evil person or an evil chick giggle like a school boy/girl for once. THAT would be unique
Athanasia: you can not be an evil guy that respects himself without an evil laugh like mouahaha, it is just wrong, an evil guy laughing like a school girl? who would be afraid of him?
Nina:I agree with Johnny in this one. There is a special school or something?? But everytime this laugh makes the hair on the back of my head raise.
Yiota: At Wizards of Waverly Place an evil guy had an evil laugh as a ring-tone so don't have to laugh again and again! lmao! Also i would probably start laughing in front of the evil person...except if it was creepy :p

Nothing Can Stop Me
(now this is hard) The hero runs on a collapsing staircase and towards the laughing bad guy (remember the muahahaha thing?) and as he goes the girl shouts "where are you going?! you will get killed!!" The hero, now armed with the magic sword of awesomnes shouts back "DONT WORRY, NOTHING CAN STOP ME!"
Johnny:now i love this line because it is used both by villains and heroes it is funny because it is the most arrogant lie ever nothing can stop me? really? how about if I shoot you between the eyes, that would be a bummer now wouldnt it?
Athanasia: i prefer "nothing can stop me" from villains, when the hero says it it's lame, but when the villain does... it's epic! actually every time the hero stops the villain or the opposite !
Nina: orry buddy, but there are lots of things that can stop you. But in order to make the girl sees you as a hero, it's the best thing you can say.
Yiota: Everytime someone tells that, you already know he will probably die! It's like a spoiler in all the stories! Hey you people "you just learned who wins and who dies!"

This isn't over!
The 2 epic hero-friends get in a fight, and one of them turns and walks away. The other turns angrilly and yells: THIS ISNT OVER YOUKNOW!
JOhnny: i love this line as well because it is so used by many different occasions. Lover arguments, evil villain that is defeated, friends to friends and so on. However, i admit that my favorite version is of the vilain that is locked away and yells this isnt over you know! and the good guy always ignores the crap out of him up to the point where the villain escapes and blah blah blah
Athanasia: "this isn't over" is best when the villain & the lover says it. The villain says it actually in the beginning of the movie, before he comes back and the lover always after a fight
Nina: OK, this reminds me of two things. First, the bullies in high-school are saying it, so they let the nerd know that they are going to torture it again. And secondly, when the bad guys are down at the end of the movie. They are used saying it, so they keep their head up. Hello?? It's over. You have been bitten. Face the truth.
Yiota: Actually there is a very good phrase to close a story...i mean you don;t have a cliffhanger and you already know that a scene with someone screams something is epic, so why not? And you get to let the audience go "oh no..what will happen next!i'm so nervous now!".

"Noooooooo"
-
Johnny:I dont need a scene here, you all know this
This is the most cliche yell ever, and the most ridiculous one. I mean really? shouting nooooo on your knees is kinda stupid
I would really like to see and listen to what sould anyone that was near the hero said
i would go with something like "ok?" or "what a douchebag" while i laughed my ass off
Athanasia: the “nooooooo” is a classic, the hero or villain is on their knees, looking at the sky, pulling their hair off and always the camera makes a close up and then goes away... Actually if I was there I would go with a “relax” !

Nina: You hear this one in so many different ways, by so many different people. By superheros and simple people when they reached their top and there is nothing else to do and they are desperate. And after that, they make new plans to solve their problems and they succeed.
Yiota: That's my phrase! I actually feel awkward with that kind of scenes...whoever the person is, looks really bad and i'm..."yeah ok..whatever...". I know if i was there i will go "ermm..i'm not with the guy". Why they just don't break or shoot something?
